Have Some Faith In The Process

I’ve been struggling with how to tackle the future. I’ve spent most of my life worried that I made the wrong decision, that I turned a wrong corner and I’ll fail. There are a few times in my life that I knew I was making the right decision. I threw caution to the wind and I took a leap of faith. That first time was the moment I stepped onto St. Michael’s College campus with  my best friend in 2004.

She wanted to see the campus because she was planning on attending. I had never heard of this small Catholic college in the Burlington area of Vermont. I didn’t care too much, just that I was supporting her decision to check it out before she sent in an application. But the moment we stepped on to the campus – on a day that everything was closed due to a holiday – I knew it was home. I could feel that I belonged here. It was weird, and many might not understand, but I just knew it. Despite the expensive tuition that I could never afford, the fact that I didn’t even know if they had the major I was going to pursue (they did), or that I couldn’t see into any of the buildings because everything was locked, I knew this was the right move for me.

So I applied. And I only applied to St. Michael’s. I had no backup plan except the faith that if I didn’t get in, that I had time to apply late to a few other local state colleges. But I knew in my heart that I was making the right decision.

I did get in. No wait list, just in. My friend ultimately did not end up going. And, yes, I may still be paying off my tuition, but I won scholarships, worked a work study job at the library and worked evenings at the sandwich cafe in Alliot. I made it work. I was rewarded with the best college roommate you could be paired up with (we stayed roommates all four years) and going to St. Michael’s ultimately brought me to living in New Hampshire in a roundabout way.

I knew it was a good idea. And yes, I had a back up plan, but it wasn’t obvious to everyone. I had faith. Faith that things will work out. That if they fail, something else will come along. Faith that even though things don’t look like they’re the best solution at the time, they are meant for the path I am taking.

What I mean is, although right now not everyone agrees with the path I’m currently taking as a career move, I’m very grateful for everyone who has been so supportive and understanding that I need something that allows me to do the things that make me happy, have time for Andy, and still can feel like I work in a creative environment.

Faith is a funny thing. You either give into it completely, or you let doubt fall into your path. So have faith. Be positive, and dream any dream you wish to dream.

I’m Back, For a Bit

Sorry for the week long disappearance. I swear I’m back, well, at least for a little bit. I’m dreaming of this year’s trip to Moosehead, Maine. A week of no cell service, minimal WiFi, days on the boat, and just plain relaxing with friends. This summer is actually turning out to be one of the best in a long time, despite all the big changes in my life. Pieces are falling into place, I’m less crazy feeling, and I still have so much to look forward to doing.

I’ll get back on the blogging for you all this week and next week, whip up a few more recipes, and let you know what’s going on in the workout world. Comment below and let me know what kind of dishes you’d like to see me cook.

Until next time, here’s a peek into the world of Moosehead. Can’t wait!!

July Stitch Fix Unboxing

I got my second Stitch Fix in the mail! Eekk! So excited since the last one had that fabulous polka dot skirt in it.

The Stitch Fix Low-Down

For those of you who don’t know how Stitch Fix works, you fill out a personal questionnaire about your style, send them a Pinterest board of your fashion likes (see mine), then pay $20 for their stylist to send you five items. You decide if you want them to send you pants, skirts, dresses, tops, jewelry, etc. Once you receive your box, you can try on all the items, keep what you want, and send back the rest. You only pay for what you keep, and the $20 styling fee goes right toward your purchase so you don’t lose the money!

July Stitch Fix

Soft Tee Stitch Fix Blue Shorts

Market & Spruce Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee – $44

I want to live in this shirt! This is the softest tee I have ever worn. And it drapes amazing! The front is shorter than the back, so it has a little bit of a style to it other than being just a plain tee shirt. I could sleep in this shirt and then wear it to work. That’s how amazing it is.

Skies are Blue Lya Geo Print Short – $38

Love these, still unsure how I feel about keeping them, but they’re adorable. Although you can see the pockets through, there’s a lining in the shorts, so there’s no way you’re going to see my underwear. I’ve noticed a lot of lighter colored shorts end up being see through, not the case with these. Also, the elastic band is amazing!

stitch Fix Maxi Dress

Market & Spruce Dafne Chevron Maxi Dress – $88

First off, $88?! Woah, I am not made of money here. I almost didn’t try on the dress just for the fact that the price tag was so high. Scary. It did fit pretty well, just long on me. I love the top half much better than the other maxi I got in my last Stitch Fix. But unless I was buying everything for the 25% off, I was not getting this at all.

GeoPrintStitchFixTop

Romolo Aliya Mixed Enamel Bangel Set – $48

Super cute, stretchy with a Moroccan vibe to them. But honestly, I don’t need a set of bangles for $48!! Going back.

Sweet Rain Earlson Split Neck Blouse – $44

My hips, ugh. See, this top is supposed to flow all the way down, and it gets caught on my curves at the hem. It needs to be wider for me at the bottom. Such a disappointment, because with my awesome new red hair, I want to love it!! Gahhhh.

Chocolate Protein Powder Pancakes

I’ve been trying to find some new ways to use my chocolate protein powder (ProFlex 20 from Melaleuca) instead of just making shakes and keep seeing these “recipes” for protein powder pancakes. The problem is, when I tried many of them, they just said to add water. It was not tasty and felt like the protein powder pancakes were missing something.

So I added a bit of vanilla extract and some honey to change up the flavor and I think I got something that works! Topped with a bit of jam or jelly and it’s a quick protein breakfast bite.

Chocolate Protein Powder Pancakes

1 scoop chocolate ProFlex20
1 scoop of water
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp honey

Combine ingredients until mixed into a thick batter. Add spoonful sized cakes to an already heated pan. Cook for three minutes on one side, or until cakes can be flipped easily. Cook for another three minutes. Remove, serve with raspberry jelly or jam.
