How To Smell Like Coffee & Get Smooth Skin

How To Smell Like Coffee And Other Ways To Get Smooth Skin

I smell like coffee. Like I just poured an entire pot of coffee on myself. And to be honest, I kind of like it. Also, my skin feels like silk.

Turns out that there’s this huge trend of using coffee scrubs to make your skin smooth and to reduce cellulite. And while I really love all the fancy companies selling this, I couldn’t help to think I could make it myself. Meaning cheaper. Plus, it’s not like the ingredients are fancy.

Allegedly, coffee grounds on the skin (well, really the caffeine in the coffee) draws out the excess moisture from the skin, basically tightening everything up. And it also acts as an exfoliate. Add a little sea salt and your coffee scrub is doing double the duty.

So I thought about it. Every morning I make a cup of coffee in my Keurig with my reusable filter, so that means I have grounds I need to get rid of. And I have sea salt, in one of those fancy sea salt grinders.  So tonight, I made a little blend of my used coffee grounds (better to reduce than throw out) and some sea salt and went for it. Try this one and let me know what you think. I’m going to test new versions soon to see what else works.

My Coffee Scrub Mix

Sea salt, 1/2 tablespoon
Remaining grounds from a morning’s coffee (I used my Dunkin Donuts Jelly Donut
coffee, a little less than 1/4 cup)

Blend sea salt and coffee. Get into your shower and get your skin damp and turn off the water. Rub coffee mixture onto your skin, rubbing it into the skin, on your legs, belly, wherever you wanna be smooth. It will feel super weird at first. You can use it on your face, but be careful not to get it into your eyes. Let yourself dry for about 5 minutes, so basically awkwardly stand in your tub with coffee grounds on your body. Rinse.

Now a good rule of thumb is to use mesh or something to stop the coffee grounds from going down the drain. Good luck. I was not as successful as I had hoped.

The Most Photographed Lighthouse

Nubble Lighthouse Maine

I keep meaning to post this. About a month ago I took my first trip to Nubble Lighthouse. Yes, I realize that seems odd that it was my first time there. It seems odd, even to me, that for all the time that I’ve lived in New England and for all the summers I spent going to York, Maine, that I had never been to Nubble Lighthouse until recently. Sure, I’ve seen plenty of pictures of it, it is, after all, the most photographed lighthouse.

But it was random. After a day at the zoo, Andy decided we were going on a mini road trip. We got lost for a bit and he wouldn’t tell me where we were going. And despite all my frustration of getting turned around about five times, I was super excited when we finally pulled up to the lighthouse, although I quickly realized how little parking they have there.

I completely suggest going mid-week, during the day, when no one is around. Only one-and-a-half laps around the mini lot and we found a spot, walked up to the grassy knoll, and Andy pulled out some cameras – digital and film (of course). That’s me taking a photo of the lighthouse, although you really can’t tell from that angle that I even have a camera in my hands.

We even ran into a man who was spearfishing. Very cool, and his fish was huge! (Well, in my opinion anyway.)

Philly Cheese Steak Fries

Philly Cheese Steak Fries

Gah, I totally feel like I just said goodbye to my diet for this one. Soooo good though. It really started as I was having a hankering for a Philly Cheese Steak. And while I did buy bread, for some reason I didn’t really want it on bread. And then I remembered going for poutine the other day with one of my girlfriends (fries topped with gravy and cheese curds). Even more sinful than what I made.

So I pulled some French fries out of the freezer and went to work. The results? A very fabulous, cheesy, dinner. You’ll need a fork for this one.

Philly Cheese Steak Fries

Gather
1/2 medium-sized sweet onion, diced
3/4 green pepper, diced
1 pound of flank steak, sliced thinly
1/2 bag of frozen french fries
Garlic powder
Black pepper
Sea salt
Cheddar cheese, sliced thinly

Red the instructions to your frozen french fries and cook them until slightly crispy.

In a frying pan, cook onions and green peppers. Use a dash of olive oil if you do not have a non-stick pan. Cook on medium heat until onions are slightly browned, almost carmelized. Add steak and a dash of garlic powder, black pepper, and salt to taste. Cook on medium-high heat until meat is cooked through and browned.

Spread meat mixture over cooked French fries. Top with cheddar cheese and put back into the oven at 375 for about 8 minutes, or until cheese is completely melted.

Remove, let cool, and serve. Enjoy with a fork!

Love Yourself: All About That Bass

Ladies, I know I’m all about getting fit and staying healthy. But by no means do I ever want you to think that I’m telling you not to eat food or starve yourself. Heck, I just had Philly Cheesesteak French fries for dinner last night. (Don’t worry, I’ll be blogging them soon!)

But I just want us all to remember (myself included) to love yourself. Love your curves and embrace who you are. Love the way you look now! Because always reaching for that end goal is just going to drive yourself crazy! Find something you love about yourself and celebrate it!

So I’m sharing with you a song I just stumbled upon by Meghan Trainor called All About That Bass. Download it by clicking on that link. Enjoy!
