Vintage or Modern: Pink Tulle Dress

I have a slight obsession with tulle. Evidence: I know how to make tutus in no time flat and if you even slightly mention that you need a tutus for something (be it for your child, Halloween, or even your dog), I’ll probably make you one.

So when I saw this lovely 1950s gold and pink tulle dress, I knew it was the perfect dress for Vintage or Modern. I mean, it’s kind of hard to beat this this dress, don’t you think? I’ve been all over the Internet trying to find a comparison, and I can’t. I can find pink skirts, but not an entire dress that I’m dying over. These two modern finds were the best I could do. So what do you think, which would you pick?

Giveaway – Michael Stars

I’ve been feeling a little down about my closet lately. Yes, yes. I have plenty to pick from. But as each season changes, items lose their luster. I no longer want to wear the corduroy green pants I coveted so much last fall, and the summer tops are no longer the color I want to wear. (Mint, I’m sorry, we’re parting ways for a bit.)

So when I stumbled upon this giveaway from Michael Stars, I had to enter. $2,500 in clothing. Ummm, yeah, count me in. It’s luxury lounge, or at least that’s what I take from the style. There’s a lot of neutrals, but honestly, if you saw my closet, you’d see the color coordinated rainbow I’ve created has a very large grey-black section. And come fall, I’m pretty sure I’ll be more apt to wear leggings with long sweaters.

Halloween – Mary Poppins Costume

For my last birthday, Andy took me to see Saving Mr. Banks. I needed a Disney fix and to be honest, as an adult, I’m not as keen on the cartoons as I used to be. Mostly because they’re not as handcrafted as they used to be. Everything is so animated that I think we’re losing something.

And I’m not saying that the new movies are not bad, clearly it takes a long time to craft these works. I’m just saying, I’m a fan of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast.

So back to Mary Poppins. I was super excited when Disney announced their Saving Mr. Banks movie. And I loved it in theaters. I love it so much that I’ve actually watched it a few times since my birthday. And I know all the facts are completely right, but I still love the idea of the behind-the-scenes of how it was made and the story behind the books.

So that kind of inspired me to create this Mary Poppins costume for Halloween. Yes, again I’m using real fashion for this look. A bit more upscale, but if you have the items in your closet, go for it! Let me know what you want to see next.

Halloween – Pirate Costume

Halloween is just around the corner. I can sense it. And as a nod to my all-time favorite holiday. I’m going to be making inspiration boards for Halloween, starting with a pirate costume.

Two years ago I went through my closet and managed to find enough goods to make my own pirate costume (see here). I lucked out with having a corset I was able to wear backwards, a sheer white top, and a ton of costume gold jewelry. I threw on a scarf into my messy, sort of curled hair, and there you have it, instant pirate!

I’m trying something different this year by going fashion forward on these looks instead of homemade. So let me know what you think and I’d love to see your versions of my looks. You can click through the picture to my Polyvore pirate board, or check out the items below the picture.
