Valentine’s Day Outfits

I’ve had my ups and downs on Valentine’s Day for sure. When I was in third grade, I still remember getting a Valentine with a neatly drawn broken heart on it. Serves me for breaking up with a boy less than a week before card handout day.

This year, I know I won’t get a broken heart on a card, because my boyfriend is taking me out. Yup, that’s all he told me. No idea where we’re going, if I need to get dressed up, or if I can slum it in a pair of yoga pants. So off to Loft to battle this issue with a few outfit choices.

Outfit 1: Boyfriend Jeans and Some Love

So to be fair, I started simple, since I might need a comfy outfit. Don’t know if he’s dragging me to the movies or bowling, can’t rule that out. Add in some popcorn (ok, a lot of popcorn), and he’s a happy camper. Doesn’t take much. For me, I still want to look cute, so I found this new T-shirt with sketched on hearts, popped on some bracelets and pulled my hair up into a headband. Simple, cute, and not too “HEY-IT’S-VALENTINES-DAY, WHY-AREN’T-WE-CELEBRATING-WITH-FLOWERS-AND-PINK-AND-RED-EVERYWHERE?” Not that I want that, just saying I’m not getting all mushy for a dark theater.

Outfit 2: Upgrade Me To Dinner

So there is nothing wrong with the previous scenario, but on the off chance he wants to show me off, I thought, why not add a little bit more sparkle into the mix and step up the outfit. So we grabbed this white sweater and a pair of skinny jeans, then beelined it for the jewelry so I could glitter a bit.

Also, any of you Loft girls out there know I’m a sucker for a good belt. When all else fails, belt it! And that’s exactly what I said when I put on the necklace and thought, “Something is missing.” (Not gonna lie, really love this look!)

Outfit 3: Out on the Town

To start, I know I have red hair now, which ultimately means I should not be wearing pink. Just clashes with my hair. But, it’s Valentine’s Day, and everything is pink and red, so why not me? Also, it’s good to know that I do not normally wear pink. It’s been slowly creeping into my wardrobe, but not at the rate of having a dress completely pink. But I thought, what the heck, why not do it for the holiday?

So we paired it with this really sweet polka dot jacket to separate my hair from the dress and then popped on a blue necklace to pull it all together.

Romancing the Rose

Romancing the RoseThere are a handful of reasons people give flowers, particularly roses. They did something wrong and use them as an apology gift, are guilt-ed into it because it’s a socially acceptable holiday to do so (Valentine’s Day & anniversaries), to make someone sick feel better (because daisies and sunshine can solve a cold), and condolences (someone passed away). Yes, there are other reasons.

I’ve never really received flowers until recently. Sure, I’ve been handed a stray bouquet for graduating high school and a bunch of fresh cut tulips (my favorite) to brighten my room in college from a visiting friend. But not from boys or boyfriends. I still remember one of my college friends crossing campus with a huge bouquet for my roommate. (I still have pictures of him carrying them across the quad with an accompanying vase). She was thrilled, I was perplexed. It wasn’t an anniversary, he didn’t do anything wrong, what’s the reason? He said it was simply because he wanted to give her something nice.

My first thought, Really? People do that? It’s taken almost 10 years later, and I’m just finally on the receiving end of that curious anomaly.

Recently, I had a very frustrating day, and my boyfriend knew it. I came home to a miniature bouquet of wildflowers precariously perched into an English teacup.

Another day, he walked in with a handful of flowers, because he had grabbed everything to make dinner, saw them in the flower department, and thought I’d like them.

Then the other day he came home, exhausted and barely keeping his eyes open. And he handed me something – a single rose. So pretty, so simple, and for no reason at all but to give me a rose.

Which makes me think I don’t need a holiday or a reason to want flowers. I shouldn’t get upset that February rolls around and a bouquet isn’t waiting for me. Because when it really matters, in those tiny little moments, a single rose is way more important than any obligatory Valentine’s Day heart-shaped box of chocolates with an accompanying bouquet of roses. I’d rather take just one, on a random Saturday night.

Confetti Love & A New Site

DSC_6147-Edit-2

What better way to celebrate a new website launch than with pink confetti, am I right? I have to admit, I did decide to do this photo shoot prior to launching the website, but it fit perfectly! Double the love – my new website RoniReino.com and Valentine’s Day! Expect to be showered in pink for the next week!

Anyway, I was inspired by the following Pinterest pin (see below). Andy and I spent a good two nights hole punching mini pink hearts in multiple colors, then practicing how to blow them on cue without spraying them in every single direction and making a funny face. Had no idea it was so hard to make a confetti picture, but totally worth it!

New Website Announcement

And I got to make my new website announcement! Thoughts on the new look? On the name? I tossed and turned so much on what to pick for a URL, but in the end it just made sense to do my name. Can’t wait to use this site. Subscribe to my blog and follow me if you already haven’t!

Canvas LOVE

Couldn’t be happier with how this turned out!

Getting crafty again. This beauty is my newest creation, stemming from a Pinterest pin that had a similar work. (see here) That girl is WAY more ambitious than I am. But it was beautiful and it got me thinking. What could Roni do? So I slummed my way over to Michael’s for some crafts. Found out they were having a “clearance” sale. Yeah, that just means they put stickers on everything to make you feel like you’re getting a deal. I worked in retail once, I know how it works…

So I bought these four mini square canvases (totaled $6, I believe) and some acrylic paint (50 cents a bottle) and a foam brush. Went to Walmart and also got mailbox stickers (L,O,V,E) and some heart shaped stickers on a sheet that were on sale for 50 cents.

Just some supplies, you know, for the crafting thing.

Before we get too far into this, let me preface with it took me three days to get this whole thing complete. I don’t know if it was laziness or me trying to let the paint dry. Either way, I wanted to make sure everything was really dry before putting colors on top of one another. So I started by covering two of the canvases pink and two of them black. In doing this, I decided to opt out of the Miami Dolphins teal and orange for another project. Just didn’t seem to fit here.

Starting to look mighty pretty.

Look how smooth and pretty those came out!

So with those successfully painted and dried, I took care to cut out the letters from the sticker sheets so I could just have their outlines on the canvas. Then I stuck some hearts around as well. The hard part was making sure when I put the paint on the foam brushes, that I remembered to dab some of the paint off so that I could have a light amount on the brush when I dabbed over the stickers. I tried not to cover everything, because I wanted to make sure the opposite color could be seen. So when I was painting the black on the pink, I could still see some pink coming through.

Exhibit A

Then I let that dry and then peeled off the stickers. That way I didn’t smudge anything. Really, I beg you to be patient. It will be worth it in the end.

Then I just hung them up on the wall kinda off kilter so that it looked cool. See?

I kind of want to make a ton of these, but I have no use for more. Maybe Christmas presents? Hmmmm

And ta dah. A canvas set for way less than the $30 price tag I’m sure people on Etsy are selling them for. And you can make it the color and style you actually want!
