Couponing: 48 Cent Makeup Remover

couponing

I’ve always been jealous of the Krazy Coupon Lady and all those people on TLC’s Extreme Couponing who walk out of the store paying only $3.50 for $400 worth of groceries. I don’t have the patience to go through all the weekly flyers, compare them with the Sunday paper coupons, and then cross reference them with online additional coupons and deals. I wish I did. And here’s why.

I’ve put myself on a budget. I am not allowing myself to go to the store unless I have a list in hand. And it’s killing me. I like walking the aisles, seeing what I like and possibly purchasing a few items I didn’t intend to, because I wanted something. And now I can’t do that.

So I went on to the Krazy Coupon Lady’s website today. I was curious. Could I get something for free, or at least almost free? And there it was, Almay coupons ($5 off 2 Almay products), an in-store deal (buy one, get one 50% off), and an in-store coupon ($2 off inside the monthly Wal-greens coupon book). Off to Wal-greens I went, bee-lining it to the makeup section.

In hand: two Almay makeup removing pads (one priced at $6.49, another at $5.99). Yes, I meant to grab two at $5.99, but I’m not crying over spilled milk. Anyway, with buy one get one free, all those coupons, and then a $3 balance reward saving, I watched the $12.48 bill go down to 48 cents. Yup! 48 cents! SO excited. I think I might like this couponing thing.

I feel like Ariel

Oh boy! I went through with it. I finally went to a professional and dyed my hair red. I have never, in all my 27 years on this planet ever had my hair professionally dyed. I’m so glad I did though! There is no way I could have gotten this out of a box, and believe me, I’ve tried. My hair is quite finicky.

In the past, my hair has been black, streaked with blue, accidental purple, orange, and even blonde once. (Yes, Mom, I will NEVER forget our trip to Hawaii when we thought a box of Platinum Blonde hair dye was a good idea.) So when I decided about 8 months ago (yes, it took me that long) to dye my hair red, I started at Pinterest. And it turns out, that almost every pin I picked had red hair – sometimes fire engine red, sometimes a light pink, often a burgundy. Always a shade of red.

And when I got a gift card for Christmas to see my friend Alyssa at InsideOut Studio in Dover, it just had to happen. So I started with a plan of not backing down and getting a light shade and pointed to the brightest non-orange red on the color map at the salon, a shade called Ruby. My only limitation: Don’t make me look like Ronald McDonald.

So Alyssa and I started with this:

And by the time she was ready to wash out all the color, she looked like she had killed something in the sink (see below). Also, bless her soul, she has pink hands for a few days because of me.

But the result was way better than I expected. I feel like a mermaid (in a good way) and kinda a rebel all at the same time. Ready to conquer the world, because in two days, I’m turning a year older! New hair, new year, new me! Crazy in love with the red. Thank you, Alyssa!

Winter Snowflake Nails

With all the snow falling lately, I think it’s time we did some pretty snowflake nails for the season. I used OPI’s brightest red I could find and then topped it with a nice thin glitter. The snowflakes were the hard part. I didn’t have one of those fancy thin nail polish brushes, so I used a toothpick to make the six point snowflake.

Simply put a few drops of white nail polish in the center of the nail and then pull it to the ends with the toothpicks. For the corner snowflake, put a drop in the corner and then pull four ends out and then use the toothpick to put points on the ends to make it look more like a snowflake. Easy, peasy, right?

Birchbox Me Time | Subscription Boxes

Apologies. I’m about to get a little bit girly on you. More so than just the regular bake and craft kind. One of my best friends let me in on a little secret. It’s called Birchbox, a monthly subscription (only $10 and includes shipping) to get lots of beauty samples. The best part is, that most of the stuff you get isn’t small. Sure get a small perfume sample, but you might get the large size of mascara, eye shadow, or good sized travel lotions.

The problem is you need patience. It took me three weeks to get accepted for Birchbox because they have a waitlist. It is so worth it though, I will share my first goodie box with you. For now, I have to watch my friends enjoy their boxes and rub it in my face that I haven’t gotten my first box yet.
